The kids chicken, simply cooked in a touch of olive oil, tomato and basil and served over rice, was ready to eat in about 20 minutes. My curry was still cooking. With hungry kids, I served them and sat at the table with them to discuss their days.
My failure this evening is I had soaked the chickpeas overnight then drained and rinsed them. What I failed to do was to cook the chickpeas in plain water. This is so necessary to precook the chickpeas prior to using them in your recipe!!! If you don't soak, and then precook, your chickpeas will remain tiny pebbles in your supper. Like they did tonight in my curry. Eghads. I haven't failed this badly when cooking supper since I was a newly minted cook, green around the apron strings.
Tomorrow night we are eating out.
