I apologize at the lack of food posts for a week. I just got my booty kicked by the Flu. With a capital F, because, much respect to that virus. After some serious communing with my commode, and scaring the begeezus out of my eight year old who thought mom was dying, I then slept for 48 hours.
Let me repeat that, I am the mom and I slept for 48 hours. When was the last time the mom slept for even 8 hours?
Exactly! Now you are beginning to understand the nature of this past week. After waking from my flu induced coma, I needed to eat. Fuel the body. Find the energy to walk back up that flight of stairs to my bed. However, even thinking about food was nauseating. The smell of the kid's breakfast was revolting. What could I eat?
Banana, Rice, Applesauce, Toast. The B.R.A.T. Diet. It consist of the four foods prescribed by your doctor to settle your upset stomach. I don't know why or how, but this works. These four foods are staples in our house. You can eat apples if the applesauce is not around. These are all consumable by very small (1 year old) children with upset stomachs. (Of course consult your physician. And cook the rice to a super soft pablum, mash the bananas, let them gnaw away on that toast, no jelly!!)
For the past five days, this is all I have eaten. I finally feel better. Not 100%, perhaps 75%. I did spend 2 hours today shoveling 6" deep snow from our circular driveway, two drives plowed under from the street plows, and the sidewalk. So this quartet of magical, medicinal foods provided me strength, and much needed gastro-stability.
Remember, when your digestive system is being a brat~
bananas, rice, applesauce, toast.
