We, my 6 foot tall teen age son and I, went at 7pm this past Thursday evening. Bike night! My son was thoroughly enjoying the waitresses in backless chaps and boy shorts. There is a seating area that is separate from the bar. While it was loud and full of bikers, I would have no problem bringing my 8 year old daughter in for a meal. But that is me - If you are not a loud/biker person, Whiskey's opens at 6am with a full breakfast menu with continuous kitchen service throughout the day.
The pricing for the food and beverages is amazingly reasonable! I had the 1/2 pound cheeseburger and my son had the Whiskey BBQ burger. Those two, plus fries, plus my dollar draft of bud light, came to just over $15.00!! My son declared his burger "Delicious" and scarfed it down in five minutes.
And these were grilled burgers with a wonderful smoky flavor. The buns were toasted to support the meat - really good meat to bun ratio. While the combination was satisfactory, the overall flavor was not amazing. At a 1/2 pound, this burger was very filling! Whiskey's offers a number of burger varieties with topping combinations in addition to their extensive dinner menu. Next time I will try the patty melt (I am a sucker for grilled onions).
The fries. Ah, the fries. Under cooked Ore-Ida. That is the best description I can offer. I grew up in a Midwestern household where Ore-Ida fries were a mealtime staple. In the interest of 'health' these were never fried, always baked. My mom's fries were gross. These were my mom's fries. Please - turn up the temperature on the fryer and leave them in longer! Thanks~
Overall, it was a authentic roadhouse dining experience. For the burger I give it a 2.5 stars out of 5.
For Whiskey's Roadhouse Bar and Grill, I give it a 4 stars out of 5. It is a distinctive local bar and grill, the best of the genre I have experienced in Rockford.
