French fries, hamburgers, hot dogs all beg for a dousing of ketchup.
I always have ketchup in the house, with a back up bottle in the cupboard. I am a standard ketchup user. There are those who put ketchup on everything. Eggs. Steaks (sorry to my dearest friend who does this ... it's yucky).
I had a friend in third grade who's mother spent the day making homemade chicken noodle soup. From scratch, even the noodles were homemade. As we sat around the table to eat, spoons raised to consume this lovingly crafted soup, her father dumped a liberal amount of ketchup into his bowl. Even at the tender age of nine, I felt that he ruined that perfect chicken noodle soup, and scarred me into a life of traditional ketchup usage.
I love the sweet, spicy, tomatoey kick of Maggi chilli sauce in particular. I use this as my go-to french fry dip, as a covering for a burger, even as a taco topping in a pinch.
You can purchase this in the 'ethnic' aisle of any larger supermarket - usually in the Indian or Thai food sections. In Rockford, try Woodman's, Valli Produce and most definitely the Golden Market on Kishwaukee and Broadway near the McDonald's.
Please take my advice and add a bottle of this Asian "ketchup" to your summer grilling condiment line up. Kicky, jazzy, interesting, and complex flavors to compliment everything your serving.
