I have friends who swear by the deliciousness of the Latham Tap's cheeseburger. So of course being locally owned establishment, the Latham made it on the Thursday Burger Challenge list.
Super friendly staff. I easily found a seat at the bar. My food was being served to me faster than I could send a single email! It was a large, full basket of crispy, thin cut french fries. The burger bun was large, a good 5". The toppings were American cheese, shredded lettuce and a healthy dose of chopped onions. Ketchup and mustard were on the bar for the patron to add (I chose ketchup). The patty was handmade, you could tell from the irregular circumference. But it was T.H.I.N. McDonald's happy meal thin.
It had really good flavor. Just not a beef or cheese flavor. Do you see the shiny bun in the picture? Good old fashioned Midwestern grill grease.
It was - Ruth Reichl as my witness - a Slider.
Not the size of a slider, but that is exactly what it tasted like. Lots of fabulous greasy oniony buny eating. It was a local White Castle. I ate about half my burger, and a handful of the fries. This meal would definitely fill a person's belly. I will refrain from calling this burger either good or bad - simply direct you to the advisement that it is a really large slider. If you are a White Castle fan, this is the burger for you.
When the bartender gave me the total for the meal, which included a bottle of Bud Light, I asked her to repeat it, to make sure I heard correctly. Yes, it was only $5.46.
